Dev Academy Aotearoa is Wellington’s leading coding bootcamp, equipping people from all backgrounds with the technical and human skills needed for a thriving tech career. 

Their 17-week programme blends intensive software development training with a unique focus on communication, collaboration, and emotional intelligence. 

“Our mission is to build a kinder, more diverse tech sector by making education accessible and transformational,” says co-founder Rohan Wakefield (pictured).

With a 97% graduation rate, Dev Academy supports learners through hands-on projects, low student-to-teacher ratios, and deep pastoral care. 

Graduates enter the workforce ready to contribute from day one, supported by career coaching and a strong alumni network.

I'M IN

Hire Ground

I’m In is transforming employment with tailored pre-employment training, one-on-one coaching, and pastoral care for jobseekers and employers.

In the past 90 days alone, they’ve delivered 1,169 coaching sessions, empowering kiwis to secure meaningful, sustainable work.

Their holistic approach includes in-depth needs assessments to identify and remove barriers, ensuring every jobseeker gets personalised support to meet labour market expectations.

This makes recruitment more inclusive and effective. In just 18 months, I’m In has supported almost 300 jobseekers to exit the jobseeker benefit and enter full-time employment, not including those who’ve moved into study pathways.

“We’re building community-led pathways so everyone has a fair shot at employment and in that process, making a lasting impact on Aotearoa,” says founder Thomas Maharaj (pictured).

SUMMER OF TECH

Matchmakers

Summer of Tech is a not-for-profit connecting Wellington’s tech employers with emerging talent, making it easy for students and graduates to bridge the gap between learning and earning. 

The programme offers free events, technical bootcamps, mentoring, and career support, powered by over 100 industry volunteers each year.

 “We’re here to empower the next generation of tech professionals and help employers build a stronger, more diverse workforce,” says CEO Ruth McDavitt  (pictured).

In 2024 alone, 2,898 candidates from 36 tertiary institutions participated, with 132 successfully placed in paid roles across 41 organisations. 

Summer of Tech’s Meet & Greet events and speed interviews have become a launchpad for countless careers, fostering lasting connections and real-world experience in Wellington’s tech sector.

Work Ready Kāpiti is a charitable trust dedicated to empowering rangatahi aged 15–24 into quality local employment. 

Through initiatives like the Work Experience Programme - WEX, Kāpiti Work Ready Passport, and #EmployerMeets, they help youth build skills, confidence, and connections with supportive employers. 

“Our mission is to give young people the tools and networks they need to succeed, while encouraging local businesses to invest in the next generation,” says Chair John Scutter (pictured).

By bridging the gap between education and work, Work Ready Kāpiti is building a pipeline of skilled, motivated young talent and strengthening the region’s economic and social fabric.
